The Taj Mahal

Page history last edited by Mr. Curran 14 years, 2 months ago

The Taj Mahal was built in the city of Agra between the years of 1631 and 1648. Taj Mahal means "Crown Palace." The emperor at the time, Shah Jahan, ordered the temple to be built to honor the memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan is buried next to his wife inside the temple.

The Taj is open every day from 6 AM to 7:30 PM except Fridays. It costs 250 rupees to get in for foreigners, but only 20 rupees for Indians. Visiting the Taj two times a day, once in the morning and once at sunset, is highly recommended. That way you can experience the way the sunlight changes and reflects off of this incredible building.
