Varanasi is a historical city in northern India. The city is considered sacred to followers of the Hindu religion. Watching Hindu pilgrims doing their morning devotions in the River Ganges (to wash away their sins) is a fascinating scene. About 60,000 people do this each and every day.
The festival of Diwali is a great time to be in Varanasi. Diwali means "festival of lights" and the city is lit up at night during the festival:
